In a press release dated 25 June 2020, the Bundeskartellamt announced that it had examined the distribution model of the Intersport online platform and had no objections from a competition law viewpoint. Based on the information submitted to it, the Bundeskartellamt saw no need for an in-depth examination. It thus approved possible restrictions of competition between the individual Intersport dealers in favour of intensified competition with large online dealers such as Amazon and the manufacturers that are increasingly active online themselves. According to the Bundeskartellamt, this would ultimately be to the benefit of consumers that profit from a greater variety of online purchasing options.
